William H. Block immigrated from Austro-Hungary in 1874, he built an eight story retail store on the corner of Market and Illinois in Indianapolis in 1896. The store closed in 1993, but the building, of course remains. It houses several retail locations at street level, and the upper 7 floors were converted to residential apartment space. This is the upper west side of the building. The satellite dishes add modern flair to the old building.
